On-board in Costa Rica!

Are you searching for  a unique holiday at an exotic locale with a breathtaking ocean front view? Then start thinking the jungles of Costa Rica and imagine a stay at the Hotel Costa Verde. This has got to be one of the most creative recyling efforts in the tourism industry. For a mere $500.00 (USD) a night you can stay in the only suite of it’s kind world-wide.  The hotel’s official website describes their newest two bedroom suite as follows:

We salvaged this airframe, piece by piece, from it’s San Jose airport resting place. We carefully transported the pieces on five, big-rig trucks to the jungles of Manuel Antonio where they have been resurrected into a unique jumbo hotel suite. Our classic airplane, nestled on the edge of the National Park in our Costa Verde II area, is perched on a 50-foot pedestal. At this height, you will enjoy scenic ocean and jungle views from the hard wood deck built atop the plane’s former right wing.

The plane’s interior is Costa Rican teak paneling from the cockpit to the tail. Furnishings are hand-carved, teak furniture from Java, Indonesia. Our 727 home features two air conditioned bedrooms–one with two queen sized beds and the other with one queen sized bed, each with its own private bath—a flat screen TV, a kitchenette, dining area foyer; an ocean view terrace; a private entrance up a river rock, spiral staircase; and 360 degrees of surrounding gardens.

  1. For $500 USD a night I certainly hope it comes with a complete with comely flight attendant.

    • i was wondering when someone was going to comment on the exhorbitant rate. should of known it’d be a money-savvy gent like yourself don. i do love the smart ones!

  2. Don’t be shocked but I agree with Rip on this one… Too much wood… ( no pun here). The bathroom is nice with the tile though!!!

  3. That looks kinda cool. I wouldn’t mind staying there just for the picture-taking capabilities.

  4. I might crash there.
I didn’t seriously just say that?! Ummm … let’s just pretend like that never happened, o.k.?!

    • c’mon… crap, youre in costa rica in a unique hotel with an ocean view!! it’s not like it’s filled with crying babies and the fat lady who needed to purchase two seats but didn’t.

i can definitely think of worse places to stay- .. but then again i never much preferred vanilla…and i’m not one to color inside the lines.

  5. I never thought I’d say something like this, but there is just too much wood used here. It looks like they didn’t use anything BUT wood. Wood on the floors, wood on the walls, wood on the ceiling. I’m not saying this from an environmentalist point of view, I’m saying this as a matter of aesthetics, What’s wrong with some shag carpeting? *smile*

  6. Yeah, don’t think I’d fly 18 hours to spend another few days in another plane. But it is gorgeous inside and a neat idea.

  7. I’m not sure I would want to fly all the way to Costa Rica just to stay in an airplane for the night. Although that does look nicer than most of the other planes I’ve been in.
